Two kinds of product, one word

A solver is a calculator. You describe a situation, it grinds through the arithmetic, and it returns the frequencies at which each action is unexploitable. A solution library is something else: somebody else already ran those calculations and you browse the results. Both get called solvers, and they suit different people. If the underlying idea is new, what GTO means in practice is worth five minutes first.

Running your own solves gives you control over the tree and costs you time on every question you ask. Browsing a library gives you an instant answer to common questions and no answer at all to unusual ones. Neither approach makes decisions for you at the table, which is the part people underestimate.

The honest test before you buy

Think back to the last session you lost. If the mistakes you can name are things like calling too wide from the blinds, or paying off a river you knew you were beaten on, a solver will only confirm what you already know. If instead you genuinely cannot tell whether your continuation bet frequency on a dry board is too high, that is a solver question and you should buy one.

There is a middle route that costs nothing. The preflop charts on this site already encode a lot of the answers people buy solvers to look up, and the equity calculator handles the arithmetic questions that come up most often. Start there, and buy software when you find the question those cannot answer.

For completeness, since this page is about other people's products: what Pokiq adds is the part a solver structurally cannot do, which is look at hands you actually played.
