Counterfeit

A hand is counterfeited when a later community card makes part of it redundant, so the same cards that were a strong holding now play as a weaker one.

It happens most often to two pair on a board that pairs afterwards. A poker hand is only five cards, so when the board brings a pair higher than yours, the board pair pushes your lower pair out of the hand entirely.

The damage is not that you got worse, it is that everybody else got better. Hands that were behind you now share the same top two pair and win with a higher fifth card, which is why the pot you were value betting turns into a hand you have to check.

You had sevens and sixes on the flop. Two kings later, your best five cards are the two kings, your sevens and the nine. A lone nine now makes kings and nines and beats you, and your sixes count for nothing.

This example is made up. The real one is in your own hand history: find counterfeit in your own hands and see how often it came up and what it cost you.
