Paired board
A paired board is one where two of the community cards share a rank, which makes full houses and four of a kind possible and changes what every other hand is worth.
The pair on the board belongs to everybody, so it does not separate hands, and it does allow a player holding that rank to have a very strong hand indeed. That threat sits over every bet on such a board.
It also devalues two pair sharply, because a hand using the board pair is stronger than a hand using two unpaired board cards, and a second pairing card later can leave your lower pair out of the hand entirely.
