Hand history
A hand history is the full record of a hand, listing every card, every action and every amount, which is what makes a decision reviewable after the fact.
It exists because memory is a poor witness. What people recall about a session is the pot they lost and the card that beat them, and the record shows the calls before the flop and the sizes chosen on the turn that actually decided the result.
The value comes from reviewing hands you were unsure about, not the ones that went badly. A hand you lost may have been played perfectly, and a hand you won may contain the mistake that costs you every week.

The record shows you raised, bet this flop and folded to a raise. What it also shows, which nobody remembers, is that you did the same thing four times that hour and folded three of them.
