Min raise
A min raise is a raise of the smallest amount the rules allow, which is exactly the size of the previous bet or raise on top of it.
It offers the opponent the best price in the game to continue, which is the whole objection to it. The extra amount they have to put in is small next to the pot it creates, so almost nothing folds.
That does not make it always wrong. When stacks are short the min raise is often enough to commit the pot anyway, and on some rivers a small raise is the only size a weaker hand will pay, but as a habit it costs money.
an example
your cards
A player opens to 2 big blinds and you make it 4 with ace king. Everyone behind you is offered a very cheap look at a flop, and the hand you wanted to play against one opponent gets played against three.
This example is made up. The real one is in your own hand history: find min raise in your own hands and see how often it came up and what it cost you.
