Sit and go
also called SNG
A sit and go is a tournament with no scheduled start time that begins as soon as a fixed number of players have registered.
The single table version is the most common, and it is where ICM matters most visibly. With only three places paid out of nine, the last few eliminations decide most of the prize pool, and the late stage is played on short stacks.
Because the field size is fixed and small, results settle faster than in a large tournament. A player can form a useful picture of their record over a few hundred of these, where the same number of large field events would say almost nothing.
an example
your cards
Nine players start with 1,500 chips each and three get paid. By the time four remain the blinds are large enough that a raise commits a stack, and ace king is a hand you are moving all in with rather than raising.
This example is made up. The real one is in your own hand history: find sit and go in your own hands and see how often it came up and what it cost you.
