Suited connectors
Suited connectors are two cards of the same suit that sit next to each other in rank, which lets them make both straights and flushes from the same hand.
They miss most flops and that is the point. The value is concentrated in the small share of boards where they connect hard, so they need either a cheap price to see the flop or deep stacks to be paid when they hit.
They also make the strongest kind of draw. A hand that has both a straight draw and a flush draw can have fifteen cards that improve it, which is a hand to bet with rather than a hand to call with.
