Multiway
A pot is multiway when three or more players are still in it, which makes every marginal hand weaker than the same hand against one opponent.
The reason is arithmetic rather than style. Each extra player is another range that can beat you, so a hand that is ahead of one opponent most of the time is often behind at least one of three, and top pair stops being a hand to build a large pot with.
Bluffing also gets much harder. Every player has to fold for the bluff to work, and hands that draw, such as suited connectors and small pairs, gain because the pots they win are bigger and the price to see a flop is better.

Top pair with the best kicker against one opponent is a hand to bet three times. Against three opponents on the same flop it is a hand to bet once and then be careful with, because somebody usually has a piece of this board.
